So as the title says I'm gonna be honest.i dont own a test kit although I know I need to get one and I run my tank by watching my corals and how they react. I cam home tonight and my xenia is laying over on its side and my hammer and Duncan are closed up tight. Frogspawn and demon torch are small. The only thing I did was clean the tank Sunday and really scrape the sides and all the rocks to give it a good algae cleaning. I strained out what I could and let the filter sock do the rest.

Bad part is I left the sock full of algae for 2 days as I forgot to change it when I was done. Will this throw off the parameters enough.

Thanks in advance

Probably not...... careful though, if the xenia dies, you need a water change...... also, I usually do a water change after any decent cleaning.

I don't test my parameters..... ever......

Carry on!

Yes. You have a mass of concentrated material no longer growing and likely decaying releasing nutrients back into the water. I would suggest a large water change and then a few days later another change.

Well, there you go. Two opposing and diametric opinions. Reefing and the forums as it is. ;)

I would say you're probably right...... I missed the "unchanged sock" I thought more about it in terms of probably no long-term harm........ Everything closing up immediately is a sign of irritation..... so he may have kicked up enough sand etc, to get detrius going etc..... hard to say.

Either way, big cleaning = WC for me.

Whenever I do maintenance like scrape the glass and stir up the detritus which I do every couple of months on my BB tank, I have replacement socks at the ready. Part of the arsenal. Bucket, check. Towels, check, scraper, check. Powerhead, check. Replacement socks, check.
I made the OP's mistake once before... Once.
I agree, no long term detriment so long as the WC's are done and, of course, socks changed.

Changed the sock and got water mixing.duncan is slowly opening and so is the hammer but gonna do it anyway. 250.oo torch not gonna chance it
