Last weekend I decided to take a ten hour drive to buy a used tank. Of course I did. And yes, I made careful enquiries about tank integrity, etc, but still got quite a surprise after I finished filling it up with RO water and prepared myself for a quick cycle. I already know the answer to what I'll probably do with this one, but I thought I'd throw it out there, if only to offer myself as a cautionary tale.

I'm sorry to see this, very disheartening. Best of luck on finding a replacement. Ultimately at the end of the day it's all about risk, and I'd never want to see you risk a flooded home!

Thanks! I think that I just needed to rant a bit. :)

Of course, now I can turn it into that dream mangrove paludarium I never wanted (see the "am I the only person who thinks that mangrove tanks are hideous and trashy looking?" thread). I'll have lots of room for the mangroves now!

I know that there are a number of critics of this tank, but I actually really like it. I'm going to have to wait until the summer/vaccination time for a replacement, as I'm in a remote area and shipping here is probably going to be impossible (I've already checked). I'm setting up a remote camera for this tank and I'll be able to watch it for any leaks while I stare at the water (and oolite in the seam). Fortunately, my partner stays at home, so I'm hoping that he'll be able to catch anything if it does happen.
