So just palys are poisonous not regular little zoas ???

Palyathoas (which is a genus of the family Sphenopidae of the order of Zoantharia (aka Zoanthids)) can release palytoxin. The reason it’s named palytoxin is because it was first discovered within Palyathoas. It has since been found in various marine life including microalgae. It was determined that it was made by dinoflagellate and then concentrated by the corals.

So no not all zoanthids create palytoxins, as not all zoas are palys.

When fraging palyathoas more caution should be taken - ie gloves, mask, eye protection and a well ventilated area - or do it while they are submerged in water. Wash up throughly afterwords.

In the end caution should always be taken when fraging anything- that level of care is up to you.

If you do some google research I believe you can find Tidal Gardens has a video on how to identify palyathoas. I know the main difference is related to the mouth……but can’t remember which was which so I won’t try and guess …

Below are a couple scientific articles related to Palytoxin specifically.

I dont think you will get the reaction from those mushrooms that you’re hoping for.
