I'm looking to replace the stock return pumps in my Innovative Marine SR-80 and go with something quieter. I've narrowed it down to the Sicce Syncra Silent 2.o pump, but I have 2 concerns that I'm battling over and could use some help from the experienced group out there.
1. The IM stock pumps (there are 2 of them) are 475 GHP. The Sicce Synca Silent models I'm looking at are either the 1.5 which are 357 GHP or the 2.o which are 568 GPH. I'm trying to match the existing flow and feel the 1.5 is not powerful enough and the 2.0 may be too powerful. I figure I can go with the 2.0 and dial it back with the adjustable flow rate built into the cover. I also have 1 MP40 running in the tank. The tank is primarily SPS but I do have soft corals in there as well. Any objections on going with the 2.0?
2. The existing return pump plumbing is 1/2 inch flex tubing. The Sicce 1.5 model looks to be a direct fit into the existing plumbing. The 2.o model would need a 3/4" to 1/2" reducer to fit the existing plumbing. If I go with the 2.0 and reduce the 3/4" outlet to the 1/2" outlet will that cause added stress on the motor? And to that end, if I'm reducing the flow with adjustable flow rate on the 2.0 (noted above) would that also cause added stress or early failure of the pump?
Any advice with the pro's and con's would be greatly appreciated.
