Well, here we go again! After the disaster that was my last attempt at a larger tank this is attempt 2! After lots of searching and contacting manufactures about going custom again I stumbled upon a deal I couldnt pass up from a local reefer that wanted out of the hobby.

2 things:

1. I type. A lot, so be prepared to read through a lot if you are following along!
2. I also post lots of photos. Unfortunately they are cell phone pictures, and I do not take the time to edit them in photoshop/lightroom. Most turn out pretty good though!

Display: Innovative Marine SR-80 (I may bust out the AIO compartments and drill the back.. will see!)
Stand: Custom made from previous owner
Skimmer: Plan on picking up a Tunze 9012 DC for this build
Lighting: 2 GHL Mitras LX7's
Sand: Tropic Eden reef flakes
Controlled with apex classic
Flow: 2 Jebao dcs 2000 return pumps
Flow: 4 mp40's (bought enough for a larger tank, might as well use them all at a lower speed)
Tunze 3155 ato
Eventually running apex dos with 2 ESV 2 part for consumption
RSCP salt
Occassional GAC from red sea, and brs rox.8 in a media bag (not reactor)

Current fish moving to this build include:
1 Clownfish (9 years old)
1 SMALL purple tang
1 Starry blenny
1 Orchid dotty back

Current inverts moving:
5-10 Rainbow Bubble tip anemones ( Have 10 now, Will likely give some away/sell some locally during the transition)
1 Sherman Rose anemone from Pieces of the Ocean
1 Black widow anemone purchased locally
1-3 Maxi Mini carpet anemones (Have 3, but have been unsuccessful in the past from removing them from rock/glass)
3-5 rock flower anemones (have 5 but 2 I dont think will make it)
1 anemone crab
~5 scarlet hermits

Current corals include (but not limited to)
Large hammer colony (20ish heads)
Purple torch (4-5 heads)
AoG zoa colony
Gobstoppers zoa colony
WWC Halle Berrey colony
ORA Purple Stylo mini colony
OG Tubbs blue zoas
OG rasta's
Cali tort
BC Orange tipped albrolhosensis
Teal hammer coral
Multi colored splatter hammer coral
ORA Tricolor Valida mini colony
Sky blue Yuma

The plan for this build is going to be a very mixed setup. Zoas, anemones, euphillia, ricordia/yumas and a few sticks will make it in. Ideally I will be able to run this display tank (or even drilled with sump and stuff) until I move (hopefully in about 3 years or so) and then upgrade to a custom size of 48"x30"x20". During this time, I plan on slowly moving towards more high end stuff. Will likely phase out the standard rainbow bubble tips and try to get a more ultra colored one. Hopefully the black widow and sherman will also thrive. I would like to eventually pick up a sunburst and or lemon drop as well. First things first though is zoas and palys. They are my SO's favorite thing in the tank, so as soon as this is up and stable after the transfer I will be on the hunt for a few nice ones (including WWC Purple monsters, RR Pink diamonds, CC Vamps in drag and so on)

I have already contacted innovative marine and they did confirm that the back panel can be drilled, as well as removing the AIO components will not effect the integrity of the tank. So this is an option for me, and I will go that route if I have to.

Ill be bringing the Tank home wednesday evening (august 8th) and will try to document the process as it goes!

Nice pickup! Cannot wait for those iPhone pics.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! Tonight Will be prepping the house for the arrival of the setup. Moving things out of the way, holes already drilled in the wall and ready for the electronics station to be on the other side of the wall.

I have fragged off some of my stuff that I will be giving to a good friend that recently joined the hobby as a backup in-case the worst should happen during this transition.

I plan on filling the tank over the week/weekend and hopefully it is full and cycling by Friday. (I can use his cycled rocks, or the rocks i have had in a tub of heated and moving saltwater for the last ~3 months) and will likely be moving over some test coral after the first water change one week in.

After week 2 I will probably move over about 1/3 - 1/2 the corals and an anemone or 2 to the system and another water change.

Week 3 I will move over some of the fish/buy 1 or 2 for the setup, and move another couple of the standard rainbow anemones I have

Week 4 I will move over the rest of the fish

If everything is still going well with the transition, I will move over the rest of the coral/anemones and such on week 5, but keep my current tank running (albiet empty) in-case I need to do an emergency move back to this setup.

During this time I will be dosing Bio spira, Dr tims one and only, prodibio and kz zeobak (I have had bad experiences with not enough diversity) as well as move over cycled siporax from the one and only @Abhishek !

Obviously the health of the coral/fish/inverts during this time will dictate any changes to the planned transition, as well as lots of testing of the water.

Once the transition is over, the uglies have passed (if any, im not expecting much other than a diatom bloom from the sand although I am rinsing it before using it!) and about a month or 2 of stabalizing has gone on, I want to pick up a few wrasses.

1x Yellow Coris wrasse
1x Radiant wrasse
1x Christmas Wrasse

Is what I am thinking for this build.

Nice one !!! So excited to see you bounce back after the set back . Once things settle down, I might have some test goodies for you.

P.S - Am not the one and only :D

Regards,
Abhishek

I look forward to it! How is the progress going for your future upgrade?!

Sherman rose has been struggling since being introduced to the temporary tank, tomorrow I am picking up a qt and hospital setup along with this display, and will be starting Cipro treatment on it after I pick the meds up on Thursday

It deflates ~2-3 times daily and the mouth is gaping during deflation, as well as shortened tentacles.

I have never done this before but the process seems easy enough although takes a lot of saltwater

Tank and stand are officially inside the house and in the basement! NOTHING EVEN BROKE! Plus since I bought it from someone leaving the hobby I now have a metric TON of extra stuff to go through, store or sell.

Now for the bad, My Black widow anemone decided to have a date with the mp40.. Dont see recovery as an option but i suppose ill let the 3 chunks try to recover for a couple days. If nothing and no movement I will pull them out and toss it.

Hopefully I get the tank filled with water/sand/rock here soon.

received the simmer from BRS yesterday, but looks like now i should make another order for foam covers..

Also, I have decided the first item for my wish list on this setup: the pax bellum arid n18 or n24 chaeto reactor. I had planned on running an ATS on my last build, but since this is a sumpless setup the ats will not work. Quick, dirty photo to be uploaded later today of it in the house. It is dirty, needs to be cleaned up but hey its inside and not broken which is more than i can say for my last attempt at an upgrade.

That is a shame. Good luck with it. I really love the Black Widow coloration and dark base.

Made some progress last night with the build!
1. Installed 1 of the 2 GHL Mitras LX7's above the tank.
2. removed most of the sand that was in the bottom (I will be using my own sand)
3. Made ~35 gallons of RO/DI
4. Went through all the extra stuff I have (I have a lot of stuff unfortunately so ill be selling much of the unneeded equipment)

Had a couple setbacks as well.
1. There is no outlet where I need it by the planned powerstation, so one will have to be installed.
2. I cant fill the tank with water until I am able to mount the second GHL Mitras and Flex mount on the stand, but i cant do that as its in use on the red sea tan k until i can transfer to this one. So Ill have to get creative..
3. The rock that came with the tank has been out of water too long, and not heated or anything. I am guessing much of the bacteria died off so It will have to go through the cycle process again. (I have a few different bottled bacteria though that i plan on using so it should be a quick cycle.)

The goal for tonight is simple:
Set up hospital tank for anemone and move the anemone over
possibly mount apex and other electronics in the area i need it to be
rinse sand and place in the tank (sand is brand new, but I want to remove as much dust as possible)

Relax lol
