So like an idiot I mounted a little throw away temp probe over my sump and it fell in overnight. The lcd screen was trashed and leaking black goo and the batteries were corroding. Tank looks ok so far. Some Lps is retracted but sps and acros are seemingly unfazed. I’m running some extra carbon and filter floss in the sock and making water as fast as I can for a WC. Anyone have any thoughts on what else I can do (besides be smarter next time). Have I dodged a bullet or is the hammer yet to fall?

Don't do more that 40-50% at a time, that can be detrimental

If I was you I’d do a regular water change and add a bunch of carbon. Like mentioned big water changes might do more harm than good

Like waiting for a punch in the gut that you know is coming but just not when.
One of those things when you tell yourself “ Why didn’t I think of this happening “ hopefully the outcome won’t be horrible but sometimes getting humbled is the best way to avoid making mistakes in the future.

IMO, every reef tank owner should keep a poly filter pad on hand for 'emergencies' such as this. They are particularly adept at adsorbing heavy metals and similar contaminants.

Agreed I immediately put one in the filter sock and ordered replacement.

Youll be amazed on how fast carbon works....think you have a great plan in action...keep us updated
