important lesson i though i should share

very important tip:.......
be very careful when taking pictures of your critters...

i messed up very bad last week while taking a pic of my mantis shrimp(which i love ).... i didn't check that the flash was off and his superman eyes were damaged ...badly!!
he has completely lost an eye and the other looks iffy and he is visibly fighting infection due to damageds tissue
i really hope he makes it...he is so cool

ya i feel so bad..... thing is i thought about it before and just forgot to check and about the only kind of vision a mantis doesn't have is X-ray ...they have amazing eyes

They have super powered eyesight...I can totally see how that would effect him. Do they regrow eyes like they grow their limbs?

that's what i am praying for . the best part of mantis shrimps is their curiuos personality always looking at you and checking things out....i could not feel worse for my mistake

yes i'm hoping for regrowth but the eye being so complex especially a mantis shrimps eye i'm not holding my breath and he's not eating much either he can't see it move so it is not interesting him. even when i put shrimp right at his face...sooooooooooooooooooo we'll see i walk by that tank and feel just awful ...... i work so hard to give them a great home and then one stupid moment ....

The eye will not regenerate. Are you sure it's from taking it's picture? They can lose eyes from other reasons.

i about as sure as i can be ... i only have a few small 2inch by 2 inch rocks in the tank and macro algae for him to hide in and other than that he is alone and he started acting blinded right after t i took a pic to show on one of the reef forums he is alone in a 15 gallon tank 10 small rocks sitting directly on sand
