I got this frag for a really good price. No name. Came home and it looks oddly familiar.
Anyone ID this?

I didn’t say I was right , just that it was my first thought;)
I guess. I had a large Walt disney a while ago so it's colors and Coralites looked iffy. But we really won't know till it's bigger anyway. I have a Walt Disney coming anyway and thought eh why not

They are all made up designer names.......as an old salt, this is what drives me crazy, in your lighting it turns into a new coral called "Monkey Balls" ..........Genus, Species name is all that matters....Latin name identification.
Not Cartoon Names ....Rant over

Great so what is the scientific name then

It appears to be acropora tenuis based off the structure of the coral. But based off the photos you provided it does appear to be a WD or WD Jr. depending on who named it :)
That's what I thought. Looks very "tenuisy" for a lake of a better word.

ok boss.

@VanDalsenReef I hope you saw my answer as an attempt to be helpful, which is how it was intended.
I get it. It was helpful. Was looking more for scientific name even though as I'm reading my.original post it doesn't look that way at all.

This is why new reefers have so much trouble. People who don’t know say things like this for internet points.
Or, and hear me out, the attributes, criteria, or standards by which named corals are identified are so vague and arbitrary that identification will always be at best an educated guess, one that is completely subjective and subject to things like confirmation bias (it would be better if your new coral is a ‘whatever trendy coral’, so the attributes which point in that direction are more heavily weighted).
