After!

This is only temporary. The new tank, a Red Sea 525 XL will be placed in front of the window to the right of where the tank is now. :) I will post updates.

The tank swap was a success!

We ended up putting the new tank in a different place which made it very easy to transfer water, rocks and livestock. I added dead rock to my current live rock and brand new live sand. I only saw an almost undetectable nitrite spike but it went away by the next day.

The water parameters are great and the corals are super happy. The fish are also glad to have much more space. See pics below. Sorry for the messy wiring on the lamps. When I took the pictures, I still hadn’t received the Lunar module so I didn’t want to tie anything yet.

Nicely done! Can't help but laugh a bit, after all that you didn't really need to move it anyways. but i'm sure having it closer didn't hurt with the transfer

Did you let the new water cycle at all or just added a little bit more clean saltwater ?

No. Old tank was 65 gal + sump water, which was about 10 more gallons. However, not all of the tank water made it to the new tank. I think it was about 60 gal total of old water.

The new tank total gallons is 139 gallons. This is including the sump, so I ended up making about 60 more gallons of new water. I checked the water parameters and to my surprise they were perfect. So. I decided to transfer corals and fish right away.
