As many of you know I have the 400+ build going on and I have plenty of room in my fish room. But I am not sure if I want to go in sump or external with the skimmer.

I also have room in my sump as well for a large skimmer.

What would you choose and why?

External for me pls...

I run external for a few reason, ease of access being at the top of my list, followed closely by no water level fluctuation issues as can sometimes be common with internal/in-sump skimmers. That seems to have provided a level of remediation as my skimmer has yet to over-flow (knock on wood) and levels with an external pumps seem less effective in my personal observation on my reef octopus (DC) 3000 XTL skimmer.

Thanks for the observation and noted!

I tend to like insump skimmers due to chance of overflow....you know what skimmate smells like....also if things get wonky due to power outages...no need to worry about restarting when your asleep or at work.
