I don't know if I should get the reef octopus 110sss or the bubble Magnus curve 5 skimmer for my 45 gallon bowfront tank and a 10 gallon sump so can anyone help me out with this or let me know if I should get something else maybe thanks

Both are good brands and seem to have similar popularity among the community. Either would be appropriate for your tank.

I personally have not used either; however do have experience with both design types. That said, I would personally prefer the cone style as I feel they are easier to dial in.

Marine Depot has the Curve 5 on sale currently too.. $175.

shop for the actual pump of the skimmer ,,find a skimmer pump that has good reliability rating and easy to find parts for first,,within your budget of course,, then choose a type of skimmer body second..youll be happier in the end,,hopefully

I run the Reef Octopus 110SSS on a 44 gallon shallow SPS dominant with 40 gal breeder turned into a sump, it pulls out some nasty skimmate and very quiet. Very happy with it.

Reef Octopus. Or really anything other than the bubble magus. I started my tank with the curve a5 and replaced it after 6 months. It still works but I won't sell it to anyone because it's awful. It would work for maybe 3 days at a time before deciding to just randomly overflow.

I just picked up a somatic 60s. And for a similar price to the two skimmers you mentioned I'd give it a real hard look. It's an absolute beast for the price, and very high quality as well. It's basically a vertex skimmer in a spacesaver configuration.

I will put my $.02 in for the RO. I have a RO 150sss on my Reefer 250 and it pulls a lot of stuff. It may be a tad too big for the bioload, but I know I will add more fish in the future. Once broken in, it is pretty easy to tune for wet or dry skim.

For that price bracket I like SKIMZ. Bulk Reef Supply is the importer and BRS handles any warranty issues and have always been amazing any time any of my customers have had an issue, no questions ask here is a replacement piece.

I have a curve 5 and love it! You set it and forget it.

But both options are great. Go with the one that catches your eye more. I don’t think there is a bad choice.

Good luck!

I really like my aquamaxx cone-S CO1 skimmer,it's on a 32g w/ 20g sump and is pretty much silent, pulls consistent nasty skim too and fully disassembles for cleaning
