In tank waterfall/trickle?

I keep seeing these different tanks that have rock above the water. I am wondering what is used and how to get the water to the top of the rock. I am thinking about making a volcano reef out of the innovative marine 25g lagoon.

That is a beautiful set up. I would love to do something like that in my Lagoon 25.
