I am putting a 125g (72") tank through the wall in my finished basement. There is already a 120g (48") in-wall tank that backs into the same room. That tank was in the house when I bought it. Whoever did it has the tank glass flush with the drywall. I don't like how it is designed and want to avoid that method. There isn't a lot of support on the front edge. It also requires the stand to be fully integrated with the wall. So I will either make the tank flush with the room (viewing) side of the studs (drywall width recess) or else I will make it flush with the other (back) side of that same stud (dryweall + stud width recess). Either way will require a recess into the wall trimmed out with boards. Method A has about a 1" recess all the way around the tank and method B has about a 4" recess. I think the 4" recess would look cool as it will give depth to the framed tank. But I really would like to visualize it and get input from others that have an in-wall setup or have thought about an in-wall setup. Pictures of your in-wall setup would be awesome!
I am done moving all of the electric, FIOS and the Alarm system that was on this wall so it is ready to frame out and cut.
