Hi, I have added a trochus snail to my 20G tank (very new as well) 3 days ago, but my tank has no algae growing at all (the reason i added was i turned on the light a day before and thought algae will soon start to grow but no its not growing loll). I have added a few pieces of nori tied to a silicone tube and laid next to the snail. The snail has not eaten any of those and it only moves 1 or 2 inches during the night. Is this normal for a trochus snail during acclimation or is there anything i can do to help him?

How new is tank? Just curious have you tested nitrite? These should move more than 2 inches. Is it active during the day?

lTry wrapping the seaweed on a small flat rock with a rubberband. You can always then try placing him directly on the rock. If he's hungry he'll be there for the duration.
Any tips on how i might be able to remove him from the rock? i was thinking about the same but couldn’t pull him off...

Its only the third week after its fully cycled. in terms of param
salinity 1.025
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 7.4
phosphate 0.06
kh 7.9
ph 8.1

i have added a nassarius snail, gsp frag and a toadstool on the same day and i also have a pair of clownfish added a week prior and all of them are doing great. The trochus doesn’t move at all during daytime besides the first day i added it moved 1 inch

The good news is that if he's latched on tight he's alive and kicking. Trochus snails can be moved by gently wiggling them back and forth.
Thanks this worked. i put him on a flat rock with seaweed and he was hovering on them all day and finally finished eating. i have caught him pooping as well so maybe he’s just a slow mover/eater, but this should keep him alive

I don't know what it is about seaweed on rocks, but my fish and inverts go from being stupid picky to "get out of my way!". I could float it on the surface and even attach it to the side of the glass with a clip - but they'd just ignore it. Glad to hear Mr. Trochus is doing better!

sounds like he’s fine but yeah I’ve had one not move for a week when I first got him. Now he’s active as can be.

same thing happened to me... snail died. I think sometimes something just doesn't go well in new water conditions.

snails being snails.. sometimes they just go over the edge never to return, sometimes they sit for days with no activity... if he is still attached to somthing leave him be.
I’m bringing this one back.

I have a trochas who has stopped moving for about 4 days now. But he’s latched on the rock good and he moves his shell around a bit.

I’m getting worried but maybe I shouldn’t be?

He’s hanging on upside down even lol

I have lost my first torchus snail after 2 years for no apparent reasons as other trochus snails are going strong. In his last days he would fall off the rock and struggle to move even i put him back on rock. so if yours is still attached tightly i wouldnt be worried too much, but make sure theres sufficient food as the rock looks pretty new
