Hi guys

Now that I have evidence that my corals are liking the environment and are growing, I took some test for alk and calcium in anticipation of starting to dose. Weird results though. Testing with Hanna checkers

Freshly made saltwater: mixed yesterday, 77of with mixing overnight. 1.026. Instant Ocean original. Mix up 45 gallons at a time

Alk: 9.8
Ca: 394

System: 180 DT, another 140 in sump system. Typically change out 20-25% every three weeks.

Alk 11.7
Ca: 365

Other parameters

14 months old

PH: apex 8.1-8.35

Nitrate: 5ppm, but I have to actively dose potassium nitrate every 4-5 days to keep it here. Drops to zero in 4 days

Po4: 0.08. Was dosing flourish for a few weeks at 0.1 target, but seems to have found its balance with my food load.

I started dosing both due to Chrysophytes outbreak as a result idea 0 values for both. Algae came in 6 months ago, dosing 4 months, finally receedjng

Brs reefsaver rock and pukani, biospira and ammonia cycled.

Is it possible the rapid denitrification is pushing up ALK? Seems like adding 30ppm nitrate a month would push my alk up by about 1.5dKh

Is my thinking correct here?

How do I correct? I’d like to keep it in the range of the salt, so 9.8

Thanks
