Increased PAR by not painting back glass?

I'm sure many here have seen this:

What's the consensus on this? Accurate?

I have a tank on order, and I asked for the back glass to be painted black. I'm wondering if I should belay that order. I wanted the back glass to be black to help camouflage the overflow, pumps, etc. But maybe I'd be better off with some black felt behind the tank, if that would help increase reflection off the glass. Plus I could change the color in the future, if I changed my mind. I like options!

Thoughts?

Painting glass decreases PAR..
Loss decreases by "color" Black obviously being the worst.

You can use a black background IF you leave an air gap between it and the back glass..
