Hey all! I am looking at purchasing some new powerheads and increasing flow in my tank. I have a 40 gallon NUVO Fusion with mostly softies and LPS. What would you suggest for new powerheads? Thanks!

That is a lot of flow for a 40!
If you are looking for more flow, the most high-tech solution would be the
EcoTech Vortech pump
  • MP10QD or with the added wireless controller (MP10wQD)
I use bargain Jebao ( Jecod?) OW-25, and purchased the controller with 2 pumps as a unit but only am using 1 pump at the moment on a 80 gallon reef flat.

Another option would be a Maxspect gyre pump, the XF230: (2100-2300 GPH)?

I have not purchased/used Ecotech myself but keeping wires out of the DT is a desirable safety feature. Their products get good reviews. I also have not purchased the Maxspect gyre but it should produce significantly more water movement than your Sicce's.

Hopefully more people with direct experience with all these and other options will read this thread and provide more input.

I did find a few articles that provide opinions with output statistics:

Pair of mp10s would be great for that size tank :) or if you would like to go a more economical route, an ice cap gyre 3k runs 150. Or hydor pumps rated for around 1500-200gph would work great too :)

Hydor koralia or evolution series OR nero5

I had a 40 years ago and ran 2 mp10s. Now would be even better bc of the quiet drive and the master slave configurations available. Also a nero 5 would work well for that as well.
I have both an mp40qd and a nero on my tank. They're both awesome. Only issue is the magnet on the nero5 but that woudnt be a concern in your system.

Pair of xf330’s fit on the back of a Nuvo 40 perfectly.

I am very pleased with the vortechs, and I bought all mine used (upgraded 2 or 3 to Quiet Drivers)
