Increasing sump flow without increasing noise

I’m going through the testing process of everything and I can’t seem to get much flow through my sump without increasing noise through the drain. I should specify that all the noise comes from where it’s draining into the sump. The overflow itself is almost silent. Single durso drain, 1” all the way from top to bottom. Using the valve on my return pump if I Slow the return flow way down it’s basically silent, but it’s also barely a trickle through the return. What am I doing wrong?

A durso is extremely difficult to get silent. The trick that got mine reasonably silent is I bought like 5 different end caps and drilled different size holes in each of them.

I set the return pump to what I wanted to flow, not what would make it silent, and tried different size endcaps until I found one that has a smallish amount of bubbles but didn't fully siphon.

Even then, the noise of the bubbles hitting the sump is still louder than the return pump.
 
I personally like using the herbie style for just that reason but since your already set with a single Durso i would try removing the cap and putting a or attaching a smaller tube or hose extending in the pipe but extending out of the single drain high enough to only allow air to get sucked into it with the water which would allow the drain to keep from chugging up which in turn stopped the gurgling noise to a great degree .

So for the tube inserted into the cap… how far down the pipe should this tube go? I’m assuming a little ways, otherwise I’m not sure what the difference would be from just drilling a hole…
 
Try raising it just below the surface, can also place a 90 or 45 on it so the water isn't splashing straight down. Although when I started leaving ours a little higher it did help with ph levels. If I add socks ours runs completely silent. This is with a 3000 gph modular marine overflow, center drain safty just under the top of the overflow, both outside drains are wide open with stand pipes even with the top of the holes coming from the DT side. Both valves on these are wide open.

It should be at least a inch below the water level n the pipe . I would say no more than about two inches. Your basically wanting to allow air into the pipe enough to provide a constant flow down the pipe without any regurgitation. Kind of creating a tornadict effect
 
Where the 45 is just before the sump, cut that out and install a “Y” Go straight up with PVC Pipe as far as you can to still be serviceable. Put a Cap over, the pipe without glueing. Progressively Drill holes in the Cap, till you silence it. I also like using a Countersink Bit on both sides of the hole, as it helps slow down Salt clogging.
