Increasing the volume 90 Gallon Reef Tank

Planning and gathering equipment for new 90 gallon build. This will my 2nd saltwater tank. The 1st is 15 months old started out as FOLR, but 55G was too small to add the fish I wanted. In went soft corals. Going to use this forum for valuable nuggets of info.

How big of a sump?
Keep it wet

My son has a 90 with a 55 gallon sump. It's about 40 gallons full. We wanted a bigger sump for a refugium so it went into the closet behind the tank. The refugium just became a hassle so now it's clean with a skimmer.

Where is the sump going?
What is the clearance and access opening to get to it for maintenance?
What's going in it?

I have a 90g. The largest sump that I could find that would fit in my cabinet and allow (barely) enough room to mess around with a large skimmer, was the Eshopps R200. It holds 30 gallons but you don't actually have much more than 15 gallons in it.

I don't use the refugium so I have room for a skimmer, 3 reactors, and a return pump. Enough extra room for lots of MarinePure media.

Remember you need to keep part of the sump empty so, when the return shuts off and water drains from the tank, it can hold all the extra water without putting any on the floor.

I went with an Eshopps R200. Curring my rock and looking for a skimmer. Price is dictating a Rref Octopus, Eshopps or Bubble Magnus, don't want it over 20" tall or $$$
