What is everyone's thought on this fish in a reef. I'm always hesitant to add a abella to a reef and I've read mixed reviews of this one.

i have a red sea regal and doesnt touch anything. each fish is different though. general consensus though seems to be regals are more reef safe than most large angels

My regal is fine with my acroporas, favias, montiporas, chalices, anemones. Some zoas he left alone, some he picked at mercilessly, others he picked at enough to keep them ticked off. Fleshy corals such as acans, trachyphillias, and clams will all be on the dinner menu.

My indo hasn’t eaten anything yet, but nipped the Goni once. I’d say 125 is quite high. I got mine for $60

I'be had different specimens eat different corals. Most sps seems to be ok.

Corals I've had eaten by a regal include: zoas, xenia, gsp, dendros, chalices, acans, wellsos, duncans, aconthophyllia

Xenia....If we already didn't have a good enough reason to get a Regal this alone would be worth while. Although I do like it I like my Duncans.

Most likely that is something they are calling a red sea. If it's a real redsea they are ripping them self off.
They want to sell fish! Other Red Sea fish come in with the same shipment!
They sell Aussie Harlequin Tusks for $125...

LA has some Indian Ocean variants for over $250 currently—medium and large.

FYI

This is a Bluechest Regal from Indo-Pacific. These are sold for (much) cheaper. IMO, they are just as beautiful. The have more blue and black with less yellow. Darker fish than Indian Ocean or Red Sea Regal angel.
They are reef safe IMO. Orcasional picker but never enough to cause any damage. Keep SPS from have good PE sometime, which I don't mind.
This one is from Maldive

Baby Yellow chest Regal from Maldive. Not the same fish as above.

Very nice specimens. The first Maldives regal sure looks orange in that photo. Great colors on that guy.

Thanks for sharing.

Indo pacific grey chest are know for being caught with chems, dieing a few weeks/months after you get them, and never adjusting or eating in aquariums. Red sea and Maldives are the ones you want. Has nothing to do with looks, has to do with it's chances of staying alive long term.

Usually the indo go for $99 here at lfs and Red Sea $130-$150.

I've found that in the last couple years the Indo-Pacific ones have been doing better. I don't know if capture methods have changed or if its for some other reason, but it has improved.

I have both, and the Blue chest are doing just as well for me as the Yellow chest also.

thanks for the replies. I ahad read the red seas were better in reef tanks but at a price hike most places plus I wanted a pretty small one which are hard to come by. I did decide to go with a potters so the regal will be put on hold unless I upgrade the tank size.
