Does anyone have any experience with this fish? I bought one a few weeks ago and just now added him to the tank. I read that they are shy and prey on smaller fish/shrimp, however...

I think he just went after my blenny. Maybe. I may have just spooked them with my hand, but the blenny seemed really freaked out. The hamlet is ~3.5" and the blenny ~2". Is this small enough to be eaten?

His other tank mates are a venustus angel and a valentini puffer. The puffer can cuddle up next to him no problem but has shown aggressive behavior to the angel, and vice versa. It's only been a day.

Any thoughts? Should I get rid of the hamlet or let them work it out? Just how predatory and aggressive do these fish get?

The tank is 36x16x16 inches.

Hamlets will definitely try to eat anything they can fit in their mouth. I have personally witnessed a 4" hamlet eat a 3" flasher wrasse. They will also defend their perceived territory from intruders. Think of them as a small grouper. But they are very hardy, a beautiful color, and a great addition for a fish only tank.

Dang, did it actually swallow the wrasse?

This morning the hamlet seems to be unbothered by the angel. The angel still displays at him, but he also likes to pick fights with the blenny who does absolutely nothing to him lol

The wrasses tail was hanging out of the mouth for a couple hours, but the hamlet got it down.

That seems a bit ridiculous, but then again, it does have a pretty big mouth. A bit worried for the blenny, but the hamlet is such a cool fish. Not sure what to do.

Kiss any shrimp you have in that tank good-bye, the hamlet will will attempt to eat anything it thinks it can if its hungry. They're not really aggressive, but are territorial to a point, but will back down pretty quickly against more aggressive fish. They are cool fish, but not one for a reef that has fish and other things it can eat. They can grow to 5.5-6" as well. As mentioned above they have the capability to swallow fish almost as big as them, especially more streamlined fish like wrasses, blennies, gobies...etc.

He tried to eat my blenny, for sure this time. I am holding him in a 10 gallon while I try to sell him.

I had one years ago that hung out in a cave. He was a beautiful fish but then he ate 2 of my chromis and then died himself[emoji20]

Im trying to sell him but tbh I wouldnt mind keeping him, just exchange for the blenny. But then I have no idea how fast it will grow, or if the other fish with him will grownas quickly.
