Indonesia Situation

During my last trips to Indonesia I assisted in the set up of a new coral farm in a different geographic location from most of the existing farms, many are in Bali. So, today my friend there sent me these pics. While I love seeing how well a few of the cultured corals are doing, it's torture right now knowing we can't bring them here. He said his immediate concern with the corals is that they will grow too much and be too large to ship so they will be used as more broodstock. We're still hopeful they may eventually allow the sustainable farms to export again someday.

I feel so silly looking at these. 1,000's of dollars in fancy equipment, the best salts, supplements and whatever else to try and keep some coral alive in the middle of Tennessee, these guys throw some coral in a concrete trough and pump in some ocean water and they have colonies I can only dream of!

Thank you Dr. Mac for keeping us updated on this and for what you have done in the cause to sustain corals. I hope things get going in the right direction very soon! Beautiful coral farm photos well!

Unfortunately the situation in Indonesia is quite sad and desperate. I just heard from my friends at the farm this morning. Due to zero income they tell me that all workers have been fired and some of the farms have been permanently closed.

very sad to see.

Are they just using sunlight on all of those or do they have some supplemental lighting?
