Anyone have a suggestion for an inexpensive alternative to the $170 HY-1000s pump?

At that price, I may as well buy a whole new skimmer.

I got this skimmer in a trade and the pump is shot. I hate to junk it, but I am not paying $170 to try it out.

thanks in advance for any help.

Do you know if it is the motor body or the impeller that is bad?

the pump sat for a long time and the impeller rusted itself into the pump cavity. I soaked it in vinegar and pulled it out and it fell apart on the way out. I tried to use a pick, a wood screw, needle nose pliers, etc. to pull the remaining bits out. but no luck.

Just replacing the impeller would have been much cheaper, but if it won't all come out there isn't much you can do. I'm not aware of an equivalent lower cost replacement pump.
