Infection showing conflicting characteristics

I am battling what I THOUGHT was velvet but now I’m not sure. The dots are too numerous to count like velvet but the dots are also falling off within hours. I’m talk within 4-6 hours. I read on one of @Humblefish threads that velvet will takes about 4 days to fall off but these are almost completely gone by the morning. Then reappear like 12 hours later. They are pummeling my gramma. I’m still leaning towards velvet. Any thoughts?

I have 5. Gramma, 2 clowns, yellow watchman and a 6 line wrasse.

the wrasse and gramma is infected. Gramma has it the worst. None have died yet.

How long ago did it start?

I'm not a super expert but in general i think velvet will affect MOST of the fish in your tank and QUICKLY kill them. When i went through a similar situation in my tank I determined that I had ICH due to it only affecting a few fish and was only fatal for a few.

I first saw the dots on the gramma about 4am Thursday morning. The wrasse I noticed Friday after I got him into quarantine. How is it that many??? I thought ich gradually increases and are not that numerous. And this is attacking REALLY FAST. I mean, they’re not dead but I put them in copper within 6 hours of seeing the dots.

My gut says ICH. Hopefully some of the real experts will chime in.

My vote is ich and not velvet also. Sorry to pass on the bad news but your entire display tank has it and it can survive subclincally and infect new fish months after it seems to disappear. Are you sure it's disappearing after 12 hours? Are you looking at the fish under the same light? Are you seeing changes in the fishe's slime coating?

I thought it was....I wasn’t seeing dots. The fish went from glass surfing and laying in the ground a 4am. When I woke up, she was swimming regularly and eating. She had been scratching a while now but I didn’t see any dots. And I watch my tank A LOT. Like, for entertainment. I had been treating for flukes bc she was diving into the substrate but there were no dots. General cure bathed twice. Prazipro bathed twice. Fed medicated food. Each time she’d get better but then the scratching would start again 1-2 days later. it was probably just the parasite falling off during those times smh. All that time wasted. I’d been begging for help like a month in here for the scratching. The whole time it’s been ich smh I’m so salty. I could have saved them all if I had just seen spots.

Just posting for anyone who may search in the future. For weeks my gramma has been nose diving into the substrate, my clowns and watchman have been swimming in front of the power heads and intake, I thought it was flukes but I kept treating different things and seemingly It would work. the flashing would stop for a couple days or the goby would stop swim erratically by the intake and then the next day he’d be back under a rock. Turns out the Prazi and GC didn’t work bc it was ich. When I thought something was working, really it was just the parasite falling off multiplying. I probably didn’t notice the spots earlier on bc my gramma has a little cave he likes to chill in. She was the first one I noticed bc it had multiplied so much it was impossible to miss. Moral of the story, if you’ve been treating Prazi and GC and the symptoms go away and come back. Get you qt and copper out.
