Info on possum/Pygmy wrasses help.

I am having trouble researching about the current wrasses:
-Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse
-White Banded Possum Wrasse
-Tanaka’s Pygmy Wrasse
-Pink Streaked Wrasse

So the thing is, I ordered a Tanaka’s off LA and it was DOA. They had no more in stock so I ordered a YBPW and it arrived live and well. It’s my favorite fish, such personality! Eats frozen mysis out of my Pipette along with pods all day. I want to get it a buddy, and was hoping for another Pygmy wrasse. Saw a super cute WBPW on LA DD and almost bought it but chickened out. I want to know if the WBPW and YBPW would get along in my 20 g L reef. There’s no info I can find on this topic! I have no idea how to sex the Wrasse I currently have. No idea if it would be aggressive to another. If the WBPW would trigger aggression, would a pink streaked Wrasse be an okay tank mate? The YBPW is in the tank with a midnight ocellaris clown and is infatuated by her. Follows the clown around everywhere it’s funny. Any info on this Wrasse is also helpful. Don’t really know how to pair or if I can have another similar wrasse in the tank. Thanks a lot, Cammi.

I can vouch for pink streak and YBPW getting along in a tank very well. I have no personal experience but I cant imagine multiple possum wrasses being a problem. They seem to be the most peaceful fish in existence.

Wetmorella species will get along with each other, but 20g is a little small for multiples. They will eat prepared foods, but spend most of their time hunting and picking off pods. I would probably mix your YBPW with the pink streaked, but don't see a problem with them being aggressive with each other. Having lots of LR and places for them to hunt is key. BTW, I absolutely love Wetmorella's, especially my Tanaka. There are two fish that I'll always have in any tank that I set up, one would any one of the 3 wetmorellas and a Neon or Sharknose goby.

Wow thanks for the info! That is super helpful. I supply my tank with pods and lots of choices for food. I will take your advice on probably not going with another Wetmorella. Probably pink streaked if I choose to do another wrasse. Love the Wetmorella they are so cute and full of personality.

yes the two types of pygmy possums can both be kept together. I helped a friend setup a 40B tank and he had a mix of them and they were all best of friends

he now still has 3 of the 4, about 4 years later.... The one died when it got caught in his giant clam when it snapped shut

Yes, all three will get along with each other, my concern was food availability for all. Just something to keep in mind.

If you've got a heavier rock load and are prepared to feed often, 3 or 4 times per day then you may be able to get away with another one but it wouldn't be ideal in a 20.

I'd want a 40B with a decent ammount of rock. They may not need a ton of space but would all be looking for the same snacks as has been said. Pink streak included.

Pink Streaks seem more inclined to take food from the water column, especially small items like roe, as compared to Wetmorellas.
Wetmorellas are beautiful but they seem to be even fussier eaters than mandarins. At least in my experience with them.

Late reply here. I have a Tanaka's and Pink-streaked wrasse together with no issue at all. They are the most chilled fish ever, they just go about their own business with not a glance at any of the other fish. The Tanaka's is more reclusive than the Pink-streak and more picky about what it eats, loves fish eggs, lobster eggs and PE mysis (ignores other brands of mysis) and live pods naturally. The Pink-streak is more outgoing and can often been seen out and about hunting for food. Both are fabulous fish.

How long have you had them together? What size tank?

They've been together since January 2017, so 2.5+ years now, They live in a Red Sea Reefer 170 tank (130l display volume, 170l total inc sump volume).
