So I’m confused about how to do this. Instructions say to wait until there is 6 inches of water in pump chamber then stop adding water to the system and turn pump on. Once I turn the pump on the water level in the pump chamber drops to almost the bottom, so it then says to add water to the system until the water level remains at 6 inches in the pump chamber.

Am I adding water to the display or the pump chamber for this part? Thanks for any assistance, first reef tank so this is all new to me...

Fill the tank. Full the sump until water is 6" in the pump chamber (Make sure other compartments are full and overflowing into the return pump chamber). Turn on pump and add water as needed until it's stable at 6" and the whole system is running.

I filled my DT first and then the sump. I filled to the top of the sock holders and turned the pump on. Then added water once the pipes were filled.

When evening out your return chamber on your initial fill, it doesn't matter where you fill the water from as long as it isnt from the ATO. It's perfectly ok to overfill a little, wait a day or so for evaporation to kick in and the ATO will take over and keep your water level constant.
