So with just about all of my equipment and plumbing set up and ready I will now be looking to fill my tank.

125 gallon reef display
39 gallon sump

For my initial water fill what water should I use? I do not have an at home RO/DI water system, For my top off water I was planning on getting at my lfs ro/di water, but that will be only roughly 10 gallons. Not sure how to transport roughly 150 gallons. What do people do?

Have you considered getting an RO/DI unit? They're super easy and save you money in the long haul. An initial fillup with RO/DI water right out of the gate would be best.

Before I purchased my tank I built a water shed behind the house with holding/mixing tanks and RO/DI.

I've hauled water from the LFS, it got old fast.

Do you have any space that you can set up at least a small mixing station with 50 gal. Brute cans and RO/DI?
That would save you a lot of work/time/money later.

I have considered it. However I cant seem to find a suitable place for the unit. I do have 3 bathrooms, laundry room and garage however all of these areas are already fully used with no spare room. I have thought about setting it outside but then I come back to the idea of running to my lfs down the street once a week for top off water which isn't too inconvenient... Just trying to sort out the initial fill.

If you get the garden hose attachment, you can hook it up, run it, and then store it away somewhere else. My uncle does his in the garage, and puts it away in his storage closet when he's not using it...Cant be any more of a pain in the butt then hauling buckets from the LFS :)

Can I store the water in my garage?

One concern might be that there will be occasions when you'll need/want to do a water change, maybe one of significant volume given the size of your tank/sump. Carrying and filling a lot of 5 gallon jugs at your LFS becomes inconvenient as well as expensive. And, of course, you'll only need to do a water change when the store is closed, lol. Once you figure out how much top off water you'll need and add in a few 20% water changes, I imagine a good quality RO/DI unit would pay for itself within a year or so.

I used a Y splitter where my washing machine was piped into the cold water outlet and run a four stage unit off that with no problem.

Any of your bathrooms or really any sink near any unfinished space? Our basement bathroom backs to an unfinished part of the basement and so I used the provided connection on the water line of the bathroom sink and ran the line through the wall under the sink into there. Worked out very well.

You can, only issue you may run into is if your garage isnt climate controlled you may need to heat or cool the water as needed.

Hmm I am really thinking about getting this unit. Can I see some pictures of less intrusive setups? I don't have a dedicated room or basement for this...

I have mine tucked under my kitchen sink.
