Once I'm done with the 16 week vinegar regime, do I need keep going at the final amount or do I cut it down significantly. Like to 1ml per gallon or something like that?

If you still have questions I can try to help from my experience and research. I'm no scientist but I'm dosing vinegar in my tank.

The idea is to get nitrates down low and then cut that dose in half as a maintenance dose.

You might not even need to get up to Max dose. Might only need to go up to about half and stay there.

IMO, there's no rule about what is best that fits all situations. I think you just need to experiment and see what is best for the tank.

To that end, I've tried quite a number of different doses to my tank to see what is best. In my system, the dose is not especially critical. :)

I had the same experience as Randy. I pushed it way up but had the same effect with almost half the dosage.

Today I've cut my dosage down to 7ml per day for maintenance. I was up to 41.7ml a day and I noticed I started to get the white film on my rocks so that's why I initially asked. I knew the white film isn't something bad but I did remember somewhere that's about where you stop the dosage raising. I looked back on my Nitrate charts and saw that my Nitrates dropped from 40ppm to 0ppm at 14ml of vinegar, hence why the 7ml number.

Your on your game! I've been cutting back myself to raise my nitrates a bit also.
