I have always run my finnex heater (no thermostat)plugged directly into my apex.there was a apex video where Terrance said this is definitly not advised so I bought a inkbird.my question is how to set it up and where is the best place for the inkbird temp probe?my apex temp probe is in my sump set to 78

Set the ink bird one degree higher than your apex setting so that it's always on when apex says to be on and if apex malfunctions then the ink bird will take over one degree higher. Also I put my heaters in my return chamber and my temp probs in the chamber before the return chamber that way I'm reading the tank temp and the furthest point from the heater (which ironically is very close to the heater)

Can you link that video. I'd be curious to know why Neptune does not recommend using Apex to control heaters - isn't that kind of the point of having one :D:D

I think it has to do with running one that does NOT have its own thermostat. So if the plug sticks in ON position you cook your tank.

Not if you size them properly.
