Ive been using an inkbird to control my heater for about 8 months. Yesterday I checked my backup thermometer and it read 75 degrees. I keep it set on 79 to maintain 77-78 in the display, but yesterday the inkbird was showing 86 degrees in my sump and the “cooling” light was on. Double checked all the settings and everything was correct.

I’m using finnex titanium heaters with digital remote controller anyway, so I just eliminated the inkbird for now and added a second heater for redundancy in case of a failure. I’m still a little afraid of a heater failing in the on position, which is why I was using an inkbird in the first place.

Does your inkbird have the metal temp probe? If so those tend to fail. You can calibrate it to a certain degree. They have a new version that has the end plastic-coated it's better suited for aquariums.

It is the metal probe.

I had one with the metal tip fail too. I have a different metal tipped controller that is stilll working but I sprayed the end with plastidip.
