Hello everyone!

I have an Inkbird IC-308 temp controller in my 30 litter nano reef tank for about 14 months now and it's working flawlessly, keeping the water temperature between 24.5 and 25.5 degrees Celsius.

But during today's maintenance I have noticed that there is a rust on the probe. I have tried to do the best pictures I can with my phone.

The question is: how much should I be worried about this? The tank is 2 years old with mix of corals (softies, lps and sps), a clownfish and some snails and none of them show any signs of distress.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Don't know but you could probably lightly sand it off and rinse.

Is the temperature probe detachable? (Seems like the ITC-308S has detachable but some don't)

If detachable, for peace of mind, Amazon sells the plastic coated InkBird "aquarium" temp probes for like $10

I don't think it's detachable. Or at least it's not just pull out - plug the new one in - I need to take the plastic case apart.

I will keep an eye on it and if it's getting worse (the rust is taking over the metal part of the probe) I will replace the whole thing, buying something else.

The Amazon InkBird aquarium probes I've seen I guess are for the ITC-308S and it just easily/obviously unplugs.

I found this older post (by Randy) relating to rust and aquariums that may be of interest:
