Am i being unreasonable? Had an inkbird for three months and the sensor, or something, failed support wants to send me a probe and expects me to solder it in. Opening the controller also voids the warranty

Under warranty shouldn’t mean I have to fix it myself, does it?

Have you told support you are not comfortable/capable doing so just to take the option off the table? It does seem odd for something that isnt that expensive to begin with to not just send a new one and be done with it..

Your right, not unreasonable.
What happened?

So I am still waiting for Inkbird to respond that I am not comfortable soldering. But, since I ordered another and I am impatient, I tried soldering in one.

First, their instructions tell you to snip the wire outside the controller. Not wanting to have exposed wires, I opened the device. The probe has a circuit board plug, so confusing why they ship their probes with a pig tail.

Solder it all together and plug it in. Error!!!!! Google everything I can and everything says loose connection or bad probe. I resolder everything. Same error. Finally, mostly for grins, I attached the black to the white and white to the black, and.... voila! Inkbird is work. Grrrr,

Ah yes, I think I had to do this also. Been a couple years and had forgotten all about that.

I have the other brand. But the same problem - and it was clearly an issue at the connector. The sensor is 2-wire, and I found online at some electronics shop an adapter that had the jack plug on one side and 2 screws to hold wires on the other. I think it's close to 3 years now with no issues.
Honestly, if I bought another sensor today for another controller, I might rip off the jack and replace it with an adapter instead of just waiting 3 months for it to fail.
For the record, I used to solder a lot under a lot of QC. But this was so much easier.

They are brave. To tell someone to solder and potentially burn themselves,. . . yikes. I understand why but not everyone has a soldering gun,

Based in Shenzen, China, don't think I can sue
