Hi everyone,

Thinking if picking up another Inkbird - I have one with the 2 probes, but question is do you think I can get by with 1 probe. What are the odds of the probe failing....perhaps unlikely, but if it does that would be a bad thing.

Welcome any thoughts.

An over heat can kill everything fast.
Two is much much better.
It allows for two readings at once which can be compared by the unit and if either is dramatically out, it will send you a message and shutdown the heaters.
It’s a redundancy.
The 306 WiFi has been a great friend of mine for years.
You can always use one, but when it comes to heat, I want as much safety as I can get.

Obviously more fail safes are better, i don’t t think the cost difference is significant for 1 vs 2 probes.

If you have a heater that has a built in thermostat, that would kick in if the probe were to fail (always surprises me when people buy these titanium heaters at a premium without thermostats) but either way you would be reducing fail safe options you have by reducing the probes.

Thanks - I have the WiFi version as well - I use it all the time and turn on a fan as needed to cool the tank. I could have invested in the 308 with the Cooling option, but it doesn't get too hot in my place, but it does from time to time.

I don't use the WiFi access that much, but it is nice to see remotely what the temperature of the tank is I guess.....

It's a $21 dollar difference...small price I guess.

I have used inkbirds with both a single and a double probe and never had an issue with either. However one time while re doing some wiring under my tank I accidentally pulled one of my probes out of the water and didn’t realize it. The InkBird gave me an error that the difference in temp was too much. Had that been the only probe my InkBird would’ve never turned my heaters off.
