My window ac unit in the garage has a bad thermostat. Wondering if I can use my extra inkbird to control it? On at 74 off at 73. Can I do that or does it only control heating and not cooling? Thanks

They make inkbirds that will work for cooling and heat, but not all of them do both. I suspect you will find that the inkbird isn't rated to handle the load that is needed for an air-conditioner. What size air-conditioner?
It seems like a bad idea to me.

Depends on the model you have. Some do heating and cooling.

A normal heater control wont work as its meant to power on during a fall in temp vs a rise in temp.

Also the above comment should be taken into consideration, is the inkbird even rated to 500w?
I know the rancos are but my hygger heater controller is only rated to 200w.

This may be what youre looking for.

A quick Google search shows the itc-308 seems to be rated for 1100 watts. So if it is a smaller ac it may work. Isn't a chiller basically a small air conditioner?

I know that inkbird (ITC-306A) can handle 600 watts because that is the load from my heaters. But the inkbird I use doesn't have an outlet for cooling so it wouldn't work anyway.

Its meant for heating and to close on temp fall so no it wont.

I'm not sure which you are referring to. In my post I mentioned itc-308 which does cooling and should work (if it can handle the load) and I mentioned mine which is the itc-306a which I said wouldn't work anyway because it doesn't work for cooling.

Sorry, mistaked you for the OP.

Was just saying his inkbird is likely heating only.

ITC 308 might work, assuming it can handle the power draw. It only has one temp probe so can't be used to control your tank temp and outside temp at same time (unless you plan to operate the AC based on tank temp).
