Hello:

I am building a stand and will have a refugium in the stand. I bought an E26 light mount and wired it up and attached it to my DIY stand. The lighting mount could catch water. Do you think this will cause an issue? If so, how best to fix? Here are photos.

Looking down. Here is where water might collect? :

What are your thoughts?

Thanks.

100% need to cover that. Drip loop won't help you in this situation. I would suggest potting the fixture with silicone. Or using a cover in top with a sealed grommet.

To clarify potting is something we do in Electronics design...basically filling the cavity with a water resistant material.

Could I pot it with epoxy? Or will the connections need to move at all? Is silicone corrosive to wiring?

Thanks!

You need to put that lamp holder in a box, this is a red dot weatherproof box and you can get one at home cheapo....or buy a sealed LED light fixture for about 5$ more ;) mine has a toggle on the cord, about ten bucks @ lowes

I agree that either potting it or putting it in a box will work. I think I would go with filing it with silicon. Even if you don't get any splashing, I would worry about the possibility of it corroding due to condensation.

I will check out the weather proof boxes.

Thanks.

Thanks. I am pretty certain I am going to pot it in natural cure silicone.
