I am about to have my innovative Marine 100 EXT rimless tank delivered this week. It will take some time to set up but I want to throw some stocking ideas out to master out here.

40 breeder stocking list (current tank)

Clown pair
Madias Blenny
Melanurus Wrasse
Tomini Tang (tiny 2.5 inch)

what I would like to add to a 48x24x20H tank

very open to suggestions

Yellow Coris Wrasse
Pintail Fairy Wrasse
Leopard Wrasse
Cleaner Wrasse
Chalk bass

(few bottom dwellers?)

Now I really really want a tang to add, yellow or purple. This might not be possible or even suggested and im ok to wait for the next bigger tang but that's multi year away. I have a sump that is MASSIVE (44x23x20) its over 50 gallons in volume that has at least a 20 G Fuge and a very large skimmer area if it helps.

rock work is going to be new with this tank using Macro shelf rock and will be maybe 2 islands with a bridge and will all be very open with very minimal touching the bottom of the tank.

super open to changes and discussion !

Thank you to all who chime in !

Personally I don't like multiple tangs in 100g tanks, they need space and territory. But I suppose if an upgrade isn't in the too distant future then it may be feasible.

The rest of your list looks good except for the cleaner wrasses. They do better in larger systems where they have more large client fish.

A lot of people will say the cleaner wrasse, but I have had a very good experience with mine.. I have just a 4’ tank as well so no very big fish for him to clean and he does well. Mine eats any type of food, and that means flakes, pellets, LRS, mysis, nori on the clip, and more. I have only had it a few months so can’t speak for long term but he is definitely not hungry. Hopefully he will continue to do well for years.

Not all cleaners take prepared foods, and while there are exceptions to the rule, I don't advocate taking the gamble with another creature's life especially when there are plenty of options that will work.

Other options incude: flame or longnose hawk, purple tilefish, diamond goby, pearly jawfish.

Thoughts ?

Clown pair
Madias Blenny
Melanurus Wrasse
Tomini Tang (tiny 2.5 inch)
Yellow Coris Wrasse
Pintail Fairy Wrasse
Leopard Wrasse
Helfrichi firefish pair
Chalk bass

maybe one sand guy (will be having sand corals so NO sand spitters ...)

if anybody would like to chime in on this revision to my list im all ears.

I want to clarify this from the start in 3 years of reef keeping ive gone from a 29g->40g with 40 sump->100g with 55g sump (48x24x20 tank, 44x22x20 sump) so I have NO PROBLEMS WITH UPGRADING

the current stock list

clown pair
3" tomini Tang (including tail (no he is not stunted on growth he fat like a pear shape if you look at him from front))
Madis Blenny
Melanarus Wrasse

ADDITIONS

yellow tang (will be getting as small as possible and upgrade the tank as he matures with the tomini)
pintail wrasse supermale
leopard wrasse
copper band butterfly will also try to get as small as possible
sunburst anthias x1
chalk bass
yasha goby or high fin goby
maybe one other bottom dweller if I can think of one that does not spit sand as I want trachy/scoly's

thoughts ?

small change .. I think the CBB will be a possible issue as I love my torches ... probably swap for a flasher wrasse

Taking the cbb off the list was a good idea. As long as you upgrade as the tangs mature, the list seems fine.

For the record, I am wary of having 2 tangs in a 100g tank.
