If the top row of the media market is very dirty and you can't wash it, you can use cotton balls instead!! If you pack them tightly together it because a very good way to catch excess detritus.

When you buy a media basket filter pack, they come with what looks like cotton balls. Very standard with nano tanks as well as the blue foam pads which entrap small micron particles
