Any comments on my setup, any helpful input would be nice. I have a bio pellet reactor, it's not cutting it even with carbon dosing( nopox), my nitrates are over or at 100ppm. I have three eels, so lots of food and waste. Mixed reef.. I think I'll mix up some of my Matrix sitting in the sump with the sulfer. Thanks for any thoughts on my set up.

is the reactor recirculating? I cant see in the picture. Will be much more effective if it is recirculating. Otherwise looks good!

Whats the problem? Put the sulfer in the reactor and turn it on. Let it drip 1 drop a second until no3 reads zero. Then increase to two drops per second, wait a day test. Repeat.

Yes, it's not connected in picture

[/pictureyes is recirculating, the pump is not attached in picture.

Always scared to add something strange to tank, worried about this sulfer brand too, the " soil Sulfer"

I was gonna say look up Parker’s Reef YouTube video on his channel lol it actually got me to hook up a sulphur denitrator.

I have a few tips:
1. They work amazing but they do drop alkalinity though. So you need to increase alk but bicarb will do. Better to have a doser for this.
2. Contrary to everybody that recommends starting off slowly I would run it at 100% flow through for 24 hours THEN slow it down to one drop per second. I did this and found nitrates were 0 coming out after two days (50+ going in). I attribute this to loading up the sulphur with lots of bacteria that can then quickly convert to consuming sulphur instead of oxygen. If you start off slowly it’s gonna take a while..
3. Use a pre filter if you can to keep sulphur free of detritus.
4. You want the outlet to drip into a highly oxygenated area like filter socks to keep PH high. If you have a fuge you want to drip before the fuge.

Good luck.

Excellent choice on the sulfur! theres is not break in for that...I know. I got it running couple weeks ago. I used SKIMZ, what a piece of garbage.

It claimed 99.9...it WAS NOT. Had zero smell compared to what we got. Did not have to wait 2 months for it to work either. Trash or return the Tom's....its GARBAGE too. You be lucky to get 6 months worth.

Go to Amazon and order the u shape feed line, its metal. Feed it from DT, too much oxygen will not work, I should know. I struggled hard with this, mostly because I used garbage gear.

Expect your skimmer to skim milk, that is all you will be getting. looks like greyish paint. Happy reefing brother! you cannot go wrong with it. My Pink Stylo turned purple within a week! it was pink at the store, I new I was doing something right!

That's only if you get that garbage called SKIMZ. Quality sulfur does not need a break in.

Yes...I am ticked about it.

You need to run the puppy full blast. Nitrates build up every time you feed, its normal, it will drop the ext day too.

If you run it 1 drop per second, the nitrates will only build up in the DT.

Thank you, this is very helpful.

How did the soil sulfur work for you? My Nitrates are through the roof so I just ordered an AquaMaxx TS-1 Sulfur Denitrator, and the sulfer media isn't exactly easy to find. The soil sulfer did come up in a search and is way cheaper than other options.

Soil sulfur is what he and I are using. Careful, I bought a knock off version that did not work.

Order from cult hydro, from Amazon vendor, its legit. Make sure its yellow and smelly, should have a nice stink to it.

You need a SKIMMER. Don't do it with out one.

Make sure its sufficient reactor, meaning how much you feed, how big your tank, etc. Nitrate does goes to zero, its helps reduce it, unless you have a small bio load.

It's a 75 with a heavy bioload of fish and corals I broadcast feed the coral and feed the fish at least twice a day so I've got all the warning signs for high nitrates. I do have a protein skimmer to dump the effluent into, also like the idea of adding crushed coral for some calcium and trace elements. There's not many options out there for the sulfur media and the Soil Sulfur is way cheaper than the other options. Thanks for the response.
