In going to be attempting to place a large glass tank (305g) on a stab in the corner of a room and wondered if anyone had any tips on how to do that.

My plan is to get the tank on a hydraulic cart and just it to the stand height and then slide it onto the stand. My worry is that it won't slide over the foam layer and will instead rip it up. Anyone with experience have any recommendations? I just have total 1/2 Styrofoam at the moment. Perhaps a different foam?

Thanks!

Get some small pvc pipes and use them for rollers. Worked for the Egyptians lol.

You can screw the styrofoam into stand and that should hold it

Yes, I thought about doing this too, this might be the ticket. Anyone actually tried this?

Definitely planning on doing this anyways. Just worried the 5-600lb tank will dig into it and not allow sliding at all.

If your going to be at stand level you may be able to lay some cardboard down and slide it. I drag stuff around the house that way

EDIT: I may try the rolling method next time.
Was thinking about this as well, but then thought this might remove the benefits of placing the tank on foam in the first place.

Thanks for suggestions so far. Anyone have personal experience?

The cardboard is just so the tank will slide and not get caught on the foam. You remove it after the tank is on the stand. Lift one end and have someone help pull it out then lift the other end and repeat. Could even use two pieces with the first over lapping the second and pulling them out would be easier than a single piece. Two people should be able to do this since you wouldn't have to lift the entire weight of the tank.
Better yet would be to to have some help. Rent some suction cups so fingers don't get caught under the tank or use straps. Two really strong guys or 4 not so strong would be enough.

EDIT: another thing that may work is to allow the tank to hang off of the lift less than 50% so it doesn't tip off. Raise it a little higher than the stand and roll it up and lower it on to the stand and your part way there before you even have to lift.

like timfish said dont screw it. your asking for a crack when the styrofoam settles.
my 120 came with styrofoam glued to the stand, tank slid no problem. as long as its not a rimmed tank, it should slide with a little help.

I just got 4 guys and we lifted and slide her on.
But I never use anything between the tank bottom and the top of stand.
