Instant Ocean Salt Price Increase, +20%

I bought 4 boxes a few weeks ago when it was $32.99 - I don't know how amazon or instant ocean can make any money selling them at that price. A few weeks prior it was $38.99

I used to always buy salt on amazon.ca mostly coralife and the price would always fluctuate from $69.99 cnd which is the price I'd pay to $200. Often times the price would change 3 times over 24hrs. It's been over $100 for some time which is why I made the switch to buying on amazon.com and going across the border to get my free heavy boxes. Other then amazon there are no retailers in Canada that offer free shipping on salt. I don't think amazon sell most items at suggested retail price. No idea how it works but I find if you look at an item then go back a few days later it's often more expensive, and very occasionally cheaper.

RC went up on amazon last week to 67 for 200 gal. box. But it’s down a little since then. I was noticing the price changes as well. Time of year and availability I would imagine.

I literally picked up 3 boxes from Amazon for 38.49 on January 10th and then 3 more on January 14th from Drs. Foster & Smith for $28.04 each!!!

There was a thread going around here, gotta pay attention.

Shows $52 on amazon atm. Seems normal. I see it fluctuate anywhere from $47 to $57 on amazon all the time. I've had two boxes in a row now with messed up parameters so I'm going to be buying HW next time.
Can you clarify as to what parameters were off?

I should be good for a little while...

When my UPS delivery guy last delivered salt to me, he said he knows when reef salt and dog food goes on sale, its whenever he gets to deliver a lot of them. and that those two items he dislikes most to deliver.

The first bad box I got mixed to 17DKH and 700ppm CA, it would take 2-3 days to become clear. I complained so they sent out another box, this box mixed up to 6.7DKH and 480CA but at least this one mixes clear overnight.
/And it can't be chalked up to stratification. I thoroughly mix up the bag before opening.

NO INCREASE HERE BY ME AND ALWAYS ON SALE ESPECIALLY THE CRYSTALS.

While it is offline currently, the website https://camelcamelcamel.com is great at tracking prices. You just copy and paste the URL from Amazon onto that page and it will show you the price history of the product. You can also set it to automatically email you when a price drops below a certain point. Very helpful! Looks like they had a hard drive failure recently that they are still recovering from, but hopefully they will be back up soon.

Sounds like a great tool and resource to have. In a short run, it will allow me to show my cooworkers couple of things I've noticed about prices on Amazon.

Hope they are up and running soon. Thanks.

Lol....supply and demand. It will come back down. Maybe not $28, but hopefully below $40.
Oh, I don’t care about the price of salt. I just meant about time travel. Really hoping we crack that one in my lifetime...

I know this is an oldish thread, but I just realized I need to buy salt for the first time in a few years. My last purchase, about 2 years ago, I stocked up on IO from Drs F & S for $29 a 200g box with free shipping. I think there was a limit per order, so I just placed multiple orders. I've always bought it for $29 on sale. My tank is 300g and I go through a lot of salt.

Now that I NEED salt in the next week or so....I can't bring myself to spend $50 on IO!!

So, recently, 200 gallon boxes of Instant Ocean are up 20%. Within a month's time the price rose from ~$40 a box to now >$50.

Does anyone have a comparable salt to Instant Ocean in the same price range? If not, then I guess I'll finally switch away from it and pay the 20% premium somewhere else.
I'll tell you why it increase, I think some of the products IO using is from China and because there's an embargo going on right now. This is the only reason it has to of increase........Hahaha

Couple weeks ago I ordered from chewy. Had the lowest price around at the time (42) and if you signed up for auto delivery (which of course I would cancel anyways after delivered) it came out to be 34 or so a box of the 200 gallon type.

Can you just do that? I always see Amazon prices way lower if I sign up for auto-delivery, but I figured I'd need to receive multiple orders.

Nope, no one can make you get future orders . You can order it like I did, and post Poe or cancel the next order . I could just put it off until I’m ready for more, since it’s cheapest to begin with over other sites

Hmmm.... my LFS - $40 on sale and $45 elsewhere.
