What is the difference between instant ocean salt and instant ocean reef salt?

I bought a bucket of the purple instant ocean salt and wondering if i should have bought the reef salt? I will have both fish and coral

Reef Crystals has a higher alkalinity when you mix it up and has some other additives that are supposed to be better for reef aquariums.

I use plain old Instant Ocean in my reef tank along with dosing, so that only difference in my book is the price That, and my corals seem to prefer IO over RC.

I think regular Instant Ocean is more commonly used for reefs. The Reef Crystals version mixes at different main component levels and has vitamins that a lot of people would prefer to not have in there.

i am switching from red sea to reef crystals as i run a 300g and i have a 55 gallon reservoir that loses alk/cal over time so the added levels are needed to keep levels more stable, red sea has a higher level to start but falls quickly making parameters change...prob too much info but figured i would share.

So if I am starting a new tank and not thinking of dosing anything, (at least not to start) would everyone recommend Instant Ocean Reef Crystals or regular Instant Ocean?

my opinion says the regular instant ocean will be fine for smaller systems but i think the reef crystals are are better for more complex systems
