I have a 32.5-gallon reef tank, and I'm considering replacing the back filter blocks with in-tank media. Do you think this is a good idea? And if so, which one should I get and how should I do it?

The intank media baskets are great!! A million times better than stock in my opinion... I run my water level high anyways so it didn't effect me, but in order for them to function properly you need to make sure your level is high enough, I also run an upgraded return pump.

Sounds good. Which intank media should I use and what should I put in each layer? Would the inTank Media Basket for Fluval Flex 32.5 on amazon work?

Are the ones on Amazon intank brand? I ordered mine straight from intank, I'll attach a picture. I do filter floss in the top of each media basket(the big sheets on intanks website are cheap) and just cut them to fit. Then between both baskets I run charcoal, bio media, seachem matrix and chemipure blue... I may switch it up though soon and add chaeto into one basket, but my current setup works great!

If you did add Chateo to one basket which layer would you add it to and would the lights you use above the tank work to help it grow? Also, which carbon and bio media do you use?

Im running the fluval charcoal bags, they fit perfectly, and my bio media is fluval biomax, the chaeto if I use it I plan on running it in the bottom portion(removing the center chamber slot) so the top chamber will be my floss still and the 2nd and 3rd chamber will be one big chamber with the chaeto, and then for the light, they sell refugium lights that will adhere to the back of the tank and shine right in where the refugium(chaeto) would be. The stock marine light won't do anything for the back chamber or chaeto in there.

I use an AI Prime 16 HD LED on my Fluval tank. Would that work for growing the chaeto? Also I coudnt attatch a light to the back of my tank. I could just use the carbon and biomax filtration if the chaeto doesnt work

I've been running just fine without chaeto, the media and everything is honestly probably your best bet. The amount of chaeto the basket would hold probably wouldn't make much of a difference, I was going to try it just to change things up and combat my GHA outbreak, but that has since been eliminated, so I'll probably stick to my current setup going forward.

How are you liking the ai prime? Are you growing anything? I've been debating about going with 2 16hd or the kessil A500x or 2 A360X

I only bought one and its not enough. If youre gonna invest in it, definately get two. But even with just one I noticed significant difference in my corals health then with the one that comes with the tank. And that lid it comes with is just a pain. The app is super easy to control and change light schedules and things. Highly recomend it. I would talk to people about the kessil though, becasue I've never used it before, so I dont know how well they work.

I don't know about for your tank but intake also makes a refugium basket you can put in one of the chambers. The regular prime isn't a good light for cheato. I work at algaebarn and have experimented with all of the light you can think of. However there is a light that innovative marine makes called the chaeto max its less than a half inch thick and goes on the backside of the all in one chamber you just cut the vinyl off where the light goes. It actually grows it really well. Ai makes the prime fugevwhich is my favorite light for refugiums.
