I just put three of these little captive bred eviota gobies in my tank on Wed and they did amazing right from the start (TY, Biota!). But this one in particular (see pictured) is especially bold and cute. On day two it began to venture up higher in the tank and show interest in living with my tailspot blenny in the barnacles — TSB says “no” but seems to be warming up lol.
Anyway, I witnessed an interaction y’day afternoon that really grabbed me. I didn’t get it on video b/c I was afraid if I moved I might disturb the interaction, so instead I just observed this little tiny goby swim up to where the TSB was perched on a rock behind the barnacles and hover in front of him — they stayed face to face like this checking e/o out for a good 30 seconds or more before the little goby swam away.
I have no idea what this behavior or communication between the two species of fish meant, but by how relaxed both fish appeared, it didn’t look even close to any sort of challenge. The little one continues to try to live with the TSB, and both fish continue to peacefully check e/o out.
Just a cute little story, and I was wondering if others have experienced interesting interactions between different species of fish in your tanks…
