Interesting haul in LFS Chaeto

So I picked up some chaeto from the LFS. Here’s what I’ve found and been able to get decent pics of. Brittle star, fire worm, asterina Star, hydroids? Pic 2 sphaeromatid?

i don’t know. My thoughts are hydroids, but I’ve never seen it before.

do you know what the critter is in the first photo very top? Hydroids our aptasia?

Looks like an unattached aiptasia

I have more and more questions as I search the interwebs!

Can i simply rinse the brittle star with DT water in a bucket and drop it in DT?

Is it reasonable or even worth trying to eliminate the aptasia or should I light the bucket on fire?

Does Grape Caulurpa go sexual?

Nuke the asterina? They multiply like crazy and eat coraline.

i was strongly leaning toward lighting the bucket on fire, but I needed a voice of reason to push me through the finish line! Although I did have fun sifting through it to see what I could find.

they gave me a softball size ball of chaeto with dragons breath and grape caulurpa mixed in. There are all sorts of small and large pods in there. I’m thinking of throwing it all out though because of the aptasia.

Otherwise I’ll throw some alkali metals in there to get it good and hot!

You can do a short dip in rodi. Honestly, I wouldn't stress about a few aiptasia. You're gonna end up with them in your tank at some point.

Yeaaaah, I'm not so sure about that advice. I wouldnt willingly put aiptasia in my tank

Keep aptasia out as long as possible. With decent quarantine, inspection and dipping you can keep most pests out. Quarantine is the best for aptasia. 18 months into my latest tank and still aptasia free.
