Picked up this very neat little guy today to eventually go into my 240 gallon FOWLR (needs to get through quarantine first). Already eating frozen mysis, seems to be settling in well. Buried himself in the sand on the left half of the quarantine shortly after being added. Gymnachirus texae, the Zebra Fringe Sole. Max size of 5.5", which should make it much better suited to captivity than many of the other flounders/soles seen more commonly in the hobby! Definitely has a very grumpy face.

When I saw the first photo I thought it was just a bag of carbon sat down. The camouflage these fish have is amazing.

I read the subject and clicked out of curiosity but was not expecting to be surprised. Thank you for sharing this, I’ve never seen one and think it’s incredible. Almost like having a mini ray. Super cool find. Where did you get it?

One of my LFS happened to get him with a shipment of fish from Florida

I just want to give you a little heads up. Years ago, I put a flatfish in with my angels and butterflies. When he laid on the bottom, the angels and butterflies went to peck at it, especially the eyes. The flatfish had to be removed before it got killed.

Similar to flounder, they are delicate with aggression but very neat specimens

This is something I will be watching VERY closely. Hoping the fish leave him alone, but I will set him up with his own system if necessary.

In fact, it may end up with him and the popeye catalufa in their own system, as I am hesitant to put the popeye in the big FOWLR, I don't want the hardwickes wrasse and picasso trigger going after his big eyes, and I don't want to put him in the butterfly tank since I want to add shrimp in there. They'll probably end up in their own 60" 100 gallon acrylic once I finish remodeling and decide where to put the tank.
