hi guys, any info on why some single polyps of my eagle eye zoas are "different"?

I've seen this happen a lot with my eagle eyes/whammin' watermellons. Some polyps will stay closed for a long time and get small. They develop this pattern during that time. It's kaleidoscoping! Looks cool, but only lasts for a little while. After the polyp grows to it's normal size they eventually return to normal. However, if your lights are intense enough, they may develop green dots in the center the same color as the skirts. Though, this dot could happen to non-closed zoas as well.

yeah last night i was reading about k-scopes but didn't want to jump to conclusions. I think a have a couple full grown polyps with this weird coloration.

thanks Fickle that was an interesting link to some cool pics. got my interest....

That was taken back in December - I'll check tonight when I get home to see if those polyps are still like that. I know there are other polyps around those that have taken on those characteristics.

Here's how mine looked a couple months ago. Now they look like the colony on the bottom. However, they seem to maintain the green dot in the center.
