Internal pump the tank that is 60x24x24 need to run the main tank also calcium, bio-pallets,gfo reactors give me your best advice everyone's been telling me to go with the dc pump 12000 ??

I just got the diablo DC 10500 and I absolutely love it. runs silent and has great power. 2775gph. it also has slow start which is nice, feed mode and when you increase the power it goes up by about 440+ gph with each increase.

They are all very similar. Most are made by the same manufacture. I was told some are better than others. Some are ordered with better quality impellers, and parts. Aside from that they are all the same pump. I have the Waveline DC10000 it is a monster of a pump and silent. I love it. Fragtastic reef has the best prices on everything I dont know how the do it. The have it for $279.

They are inexpensive work horses. I little noisy for my taste. Tunze, and Sicce pumps are quiet and well made. I would go with a Sicce before getting a mag drive. And I would go with a DC pump over all of them. I love the features of the dc pump i have. Best part about the dc pump is the slow ramp up after power is turned on.

I run Mag drive before never again due to heat and rusty issue. eheim 1262 great pump never had rusty issue with it the pass 8 years but might not be enough for you app. I tried with my to bio-pallets(BR 110),gfo reactors(little fish 150) and return main tank did not work well. I switched to speedwave DC 10000 it works for my app but after a year it started rusty around the screw area. I end up useing 2x eheim 1262.

Most of the dc pumps fail at about the 8 month point, google them before dropping the coin on them. Magdrive, quiet one, sicce all submersible pumps that will seem to last forever.

Don't tell my DC pump that been running 15 months that! It might develop a complex.

I'm glad yours has lasted that long, and I hope it continues to run strong for you...but if you look it up, it is very common for these pumps to go out in about 8 months time. I believe the pumps warrantied through coral vue are pretty much the easiest to get fixed through warranty. The idea is awesome and the power savings is very appealing...the technology is just somewhat young for marine applications.

the Waveline DC gen 2 are made better. In my opinion best pump for the price. All things mechanical will fail. That is why you have a $70 danner mag pump sitting in your garage as a back up.

I would only trust Sicce, Tunze or Eheim on pumps for quality and reliability. On top of that I would recommend that you go with 2 pumps as if your return pump failed, you would have not only the flow to your tank stalled but your biopellet, GFO and calcium reactors ALL down.

I would instead get 2 pumps - 1 for return and GFO and 1 for Biopellet and calcium reactor - a Sicce 5.0 and a Sicce 1.5 - Total about $280 but with greater reliability and peace of mind.

Add Askoll/Laguna/Fluval to that list ^^ but I dont think they have a model that is low powered.. They all deliver I think min 1200gph at 5 ft head last I checked.

I have three running currently. So I'll be interested to see what happens in seven months on the other two. One is a waveline and the other is a jebao.

The one that has been running longest is a jebao as well.

I don't doubt there has been some failure, but saying that all DC pumps fail in eight months seems like a pretty broad statement. I'd like to see about 1000 cases of them failing in 8 months. Because I promise you there are 10s of thousands running. Even then, that would be less than a 10% failure rate. So the statement that they ALL fail and normally within 8 months seems a bit stretched.

My two cents.

I never said that ALL of the dc pumps fail in 8 months, and I am not speaking from experience either...just what I have read recently. I will further elaborate on what I have found in my recent research, and I am in no way attempting to bash or discredit these pumps I am just repeating what I found online as I am in the market for a new return pump.

My 8 year old quiet one has been periodically letting out a loud hum lately, compared to its usual dead silent operation which makes me think it is going out so I have started looking around for a new return pump. In my research I stumbled on recommendations for waveline dc return pumps. Looking at the flowrate, power consumption, available head pressure, and power consumption coupled with price these pumps seem to be a no brainer and a winner in every department. Further research lead me to jaebo, speed wave, waveline, diablo, and royal exclusive dc return pumps. I later discovered that the waveline, speedwave, diablo, and jaebo are all manufactured in the same plant in china and are basically the same pumps with minor differences. I found several threads where the people who got them were exclaiming how great they operate which got me more excited. However, further reading into the same threads I found the same people who just got them and were exclaiming how great they were had them fail in six to eight months. This seemed to be a very common issue, and I found myself a little disheartened. It seems it is common for them to fail in that time frame, and that getting them replaced through warranty is difficult. I even seen speculation that premium aquatics quit carrying a couple because of to many failures (but this is speculation).

But there is one that is warrantied through coral vue (waveline I think) that people are able to get replaced extremely easily. I think it is the most expensive, but comes with a longer warranty that is honored right here in US...so the extra money might be worth it. I still have not purchased or made a decision on my return pump, which is why I am participating in this thread...right now I am leaning towards a magdrive or sicce or another quietone because they are tried and true workhorses that require literally no maintenance. Also been looking into laguna and fluval pumps, but I still am considering giving one of the dc pumps a try...the price vs flow and power savings seems so awesome, just lots of reports of failures. They are relatively new to the salt water aquarium industry and you can see design flaws being worked out with each new release, there's no doubt in my mind that in ten years mostly everybody will most likely be running dc return pumps. Especially after a couple start getting manufactured here in the US with higher QC and build standards.
