I am just wondering the pros and cons of both and what everyone prefers to run and what they would run in dream setup?

External is nice if you don't have the space in your sump to run the size skimmer you want. Downfall is if the cup ever overflows or the plumbing leaks its onto your floor. Internal skimmers take up space in the sump where you could use other items, but if the cup overflows or plumbing leaks it just leaks back into the sump.

+1
Internal in a oversized sump is my preferred.

I think the pros/cons are pretty well established and mostly intuitive. As system grows in size, internals become limitations so big usually means external.
