Hey aquarists. Help needed

I bought a used apex classic and I am having the hardest time getting it to connect to the internet. Here are my steps:

System -> init memory -> init all (Two times, back to back)
System -> net setup -> DCHP On-> Restart (Once)
Ethernet cable plugged into Wifi booster: won’t turn back on. Flashing amber colored status light on brain. EB8 green status light.
Unplugged ethernet: run through perfectly. Green status on both brain and EB8
Problem: Apex Fusion: Down-

We've tried this plugged directly into the router and into two different wifi boosters. I've cross posted this other places but it's been 3 days so I'll take any help I can get :/

I did a quick search and came across this; I hope it helps :

This issue was fixed in the AOS update released yesterday. You need to install that updated AOS (5.05_5B19)

There are multiple ways to work around that issue, but this is the simplest:

  • Connect the Apex to your home network using a network cable temporarily.
  • After the Apex has established communications with APEX Fusion, do the AOS 5.05_5B19 update using the Network view.
  • After the update finishes, wait about 10 more minutes, then disconnect the network cable and restart the Apex.
  • It should restart in Wi-Fi setup mode ( blue status LED panel)
  • Then go through the normal Wi-Fi setup

An alternate method (if you cannot connect the Apex to your home network using a cable):
  • While the Apex is in "blue mode", connect your phone, tablet, or computer to the Apex Setup###### Wi-Fi network
  • With a web browser, go to apex.local or 172.16.0.1
  • On the Wi-Fi setup page, select Lock Access Point Mode then click/tap the Lockbutton
  • Login using the Apex's admin username and password (not your APEX Fusion login info)
  • Go to the Network page
  • Click/tap the Configuration tab
  • In the Type drop-down, choose Wi-Fi
  • In the SSID and Password fields, carefully enter the SSID (Wi-Fi inetwork name) and password for your home Wi-Fi network
  • Click/tap the Send (orange cloud) button
  • The Apex should reboot a few seconds later and connect to your wireless network.
  • Give it a minute or two to connect to APEX Fusion, then do the AOS update using APEX Fusion

The process described is only for the new Apex. OP has a classic.

@OfficialReefWife - sounds like the ethernet port or cable may be faulty. Have you tried a different cable?

Thanks for your reply! It took 5 people to get it configured and about $100 unnecessary dollars haha! It was a mixture of a lot of things... including there being no display included and it wasn't reset prior to takedown. Thank GOD Tommy and Scott (reefer friend) got it fixed because it was thisclose to being thrown in the pool (not really)
