Welcome home, you will love it here!

Beautiful tank wow, the black sand looks really neat!

The story and goal..

So for years ive had tanks. Like im sure everyone else. Community, preator, dabbled with condy anemones etc.

When my kids went to college we sold or home and moved to an 8th floor condo . I assumed the aquarium hoppy would be gone but i was wrong. Talked my wife into a tank and purcased a 46 bowfront acrylic and decided to try reefing.

It was a good starter but im not careful enough to take care of acrylic so the scratches really bugged me. I had invested so much in equiptmemt and rock and some online corals i decided to break it down into a 65 tall glass. And added more of everything.

That tank was nice but still i was not satisifed i had china t5, and i saw no growth i kept up on maintaince and let er run. It was ok but it again still wanted a wow tank. Healthy growing, thriving.

Then i took the big plunge. I new this hobby was back and went for this reefer 350. Upgraded to 2 hydra 26. And the best of everything. Except apex ( dont need it yet).

So black sand. Battery backup. Curve 5. Ato just crazy money. But i am hooked.

So now the corals. Ive purchased local, internet, etc. Piece here there. Zoo here there, and my staple fish.

So here i am about 2 years in and $$$ and as it stands now. I seem to like and do ok with the softies and move to sps in time if i can feel like im growing.

When friends see it and what it takes to run it they cant believe the amount of knowledge it takes. The involvement the dedication.

But what they dont see is the failure. Corals die zoos close up. Why this why that.

So it brings me where im at now. Im happy with my tank. Not satisifed only in that i feel im adding more than growing. A loss here or there is offset with an extra head on this or that and a few polyps here or there.

So like i said im good but the fight goes on.

My latest focus is lighting. Never here have i had coraline with the hydra. Ca is 450 alk is 11. Ph is 8 po os .2 sa is 1.027.

Because of the condo close up fresh air is rare and i have tried co2 media to raise the ph but it stable at 8. Sure kalk alk washing soda all raide it temp but it falls back to 7.9 and the alk stays up.

So stop chasing numbers right. Yes if the sucuss is there. For me it is not yet.

Like i say i have growth but i also have death and while i have no quarentine tank and am not careful with introduction dipping could be all me but well see how it goes.

Next up future steps to get to paradise

Thanks for reading hope it jives with some others
Well, I could suggest some things if you do want to chase numbers.Your pH is probably fine and I wouldn't worry about it.You may want to use a little less Kalk.Your Calcium,KH and salinity look like they are creeping up in the high ranges.Hopefully you are keeping track of your nitrates as well. Also please be sure to dip all yours corals before adding them to yourtank.Did I mention that now or 2 years ago would be a good time to start your build thread here:

And last but not least, Welcome to Reef2Reef!*

Welcome to R2R and thank you for sharing your tank.
Im no expert but you should check your nitrates. Some tanks run too clean and the corals dont grow. Personally I would also take a step back in the dosing and lower my alk and ca levels. Thats just my 2 cents and some people might disagree but it has worked for me.

Redo on sump area. Tired of turning off the wrong equipt. Hopefully this works!!
